Service Description

Managing staff is one of the most challenging aspects of the Registered Manager role — and one of the areas most scrutinised by the Care Quality Commission. This course provides Registered Managers with the confidence, structure, and regulatory clarity needed to manage staff safely, fairly, and decisively, while maintaining full compliance with CQC expectations. Why Attend? CQC does not only inspect care delivery — it inspects leadership, governance, and culture. Inspectors will ask: • How do you know staff are safe and competent? • What happens when practice falls below expected standards? • How do you manage staff when you are not on duty? • How do you comply with Regulation 19(5): Fit and Proper Persons Employed? This course equips you to answer those questions confidently and evidence good practice. What the Course Covers Participants will gain practical guidance on: • CQC expectations under the Well-led • Regulation 19(5) (Fit and Proper Persons Employed) • Delegating people management safely and lawfully • Managing staff outside formal disciplinary procedures • Distinguishing performance issues from misconduct • Supporting staff early to prevent escalation • Supervision as a regulatory requirement • Responding immediately to serious concerns • Reducing safeguarding, enforcement, and personal risk • Learning from serious sector failures The course focuses on supporting staff to improve practice, not punishing them — while ensuring that vulnerable people remain protected. Learning Outcomes By the end of the course, you will be able to: • Demonstrate compliance with CQC Regulation 19(5) • Evidence strong leadership and governance to inspectors • Implement effective informal people management systems • Act decisively when concerns arise — even out of hours • Reduce the risk of enforcement action or regulatory breach • Strengthen staff confidence, morale, and accountability This course is suitable for: • CQC Registered Care Home Managers • CQC Registered Home Care Managers • Newly appointed or aspiring Registered Managers • Senior Managers with regulatory accountability Time: 10am – 1pm Cost: £45.00 per delegate To book, click Book Now below.
